The inner wall of the tube is coated with spray-dried lithium, sodium,ammonium or heparin.

These additives are anti-coagulants, which activate anti-thrombins, thus blocking the coagulation cascade of the blood specimen.
Lithium Heparin Tubes are also available with a separator gel, aims to obtain high quality plasma specimen for fast emergency biochemistry test.
